Belizean Golden Taste is a shining example of how dedication, tradition, and the right support can build a thriving family enterprise. Established in 2014 by Mrs. Maria Tzui, the business began with a focus on traditional Mayan products—creating high-quality ground pepper and turmeric and using the proceeds to support her family and children’s education.
With encouragement from the Women’s Department in 2018, Mrs. Amoria along with her daughter-in-law, Amoria, who had joined the business were referred to SBDCBelize. They formalized their operations and began scaling up. By 2020, leveraging support from the Covid Relief Program, they upgraded their processing equipment and transitioned from manual grinding to industrial gas-powered milling machinery. These upgrades significantly improved efficiency and helped them meet growing demand for their unique, culturally rooted products. They were able to diversify into masa production, a highly sought-after staple in their community.
The journey didn’t stop there. In 2023, with guidance from SBDCBelize and advisor Jorge Gentle, the entrepreneurs:
- Expanded operations by acquiring new equipment
- Developed new product lines such as ginger powder and dried herbal teas
- Diversified their market offerings
- Successfully secured funding from the Belize Enterprise Revolving Fund (BERF) to invest in drying systems and other essential tools
This support allowed them to retain employment, innovate, and remain competitive, even in a changing economic landscape.
Today, Belizean Golden Taste is more than a family business—it’s a growing brand that represents the richness of Belizean culture and the strength of local entrepreneurship.
